Syncope
More than 20% of adults over age 45 will experience syncope, or unexplained fainting, in their lifetime1
While syncope can be scary and disruptive experience, it is often the result of a harmless, treatable condition.
Many of the important underlying factors that cause syncope involve the heart and circulatory system. Sometimes those factors areeasily identified, but the exact cause can be difficult to pinpoint and manage. Those more puzzling cases require the expert diagnostic skills of specially-trained physicians.
The Seton Heart Institute is proud to offer a special clinic devoted to identifying the underlying causes of syncope. The specialists of the syncope clinic include cardiologists trained in pacemaker technology and electrophysiologists, physicians who are focused on the electrical workings of the heart.
In the syncope clinic, we utilize the latest tools and techniques to identify causes of reduced blood flow that result in fainting spells. Because fainting spells don't happen everyday, we use a combination of in-office tests and recordable devices to track cardiac activity over a period of time. One of the latest tools, an implantable loop recorder, can record heart beats continuously for up to one year if needed.
If you've experienced unexplained fainting, we can help. Our team is dedicated to helping you get back to life with greater peace of mind.
